Family Travels – Connecticut

I grew up visiting Norfolk, Connecticut as a child to see my aunt, uncle and cousins. I hold such fond memories of this beautiful place. Not only is the town incredibly charming and the views are breathtaking, I have so many memories of my mother here. We use to come quite often and swim at Tobey Pond during warmer months or even go on the trucks to collect sap from the trees to make maple syrup. They make the most delicious maple syrup and I always get excited when my box comes at Christmastime from my aunt. We make pancakes every Christmas morning and use our pure maple syrup!

Jason and I visited a few times when we were dating and would hop on the bus from NYC to head to Connecticut but it has been over a decade since we were here. I have three cousins and when one got engaged and decided to get married on my aunt and uncle’s land, I knew we had to attend. It was such a quick trip but it was much needed. I always love seeing my family and it was wonderful to spend some quality time with my husband and kiddos.

I made it almost 48 hours before realizing I had yet to take a picture on my big camera. There was a post-wedding brunch at Coolwater so I finally snapped a few. I have some of my favorite pictures as a kid as well as pictures of my late grandpa playing bocce ball in this garden!

There isn’t a hotel in Norfolk so my aunt was able to find a sweet, little cottage for us to stay in while we were in town. It was perfect for us! The kids had bedrooms of their own and we had enough space for them to play as well as a full kitchen.

We spent Sunday afternoon at Tobey Pond, where I grew up coming to swim. The dock is the same dock and cabin is the exact same as well.

Driving around in our rental car the boys loved having their windows down and we loved the beautiful views! This was the cabin we stayed in when we came with my mom. I have pictures of my brother and I in the bathtub when we were little and can still remember my mom cooking scrambled eggs in the kitchen. Below that is the old building where the maple syrup was made.

With the wedding festivities dying down we were able to spend Sunday evening at my aunt’s house and joined them for dinner at one of two places to eat in town.

Jason and I agreed we will have to make it up here more often. The boys loved it so much they asked if we could move here. If the winters weren’t so freezing cold, I might consider it.
